Grand Knight’s Message:

Since the last newsletter I’ve been in and out of the hospital with surgery to my knee. I had a knee replacement and now am doing therapy to get some mobility, thanks for the get well card by the way it was appreciated. Hopefully by the time the garage is finished with the repairs I’ll be in better shape for our first meeting in October. I would also like to mention that Brothers John Brow and Ernest Marchand are recuperating from their surgery’s and wish them well.

Remember the Regional Congress October 4th.
The address of the Congress is 801 St. Croix in Ville St. Laurent and the starting time is 8:30am. The cost is $ 10.00 lunch and $ 20.00 Supper. The Supper will be at 1375 Grenet Street corner of Thimens. At this Congress Council 284 is due for an award, and I would like to see a good reception there. It’s been awhile since our council received any awards concerning the membership; we should be proud and be present when we receive it (them).

Don’t forget the “Garage Sale” October 3, 4, & 5. These dates are still only tentative due to the garage repairs. Mary Ellen Bayard, the Foundation Administrator will get back to us on a definite date, hopefully the 1st of October as promised, the date the repairs will be completed. Volunteers are still needed for this event!!! Any contributions for this event, please call either Cathy Lindsay at 514-768-8859, Frank Diggins 514-363-3719 or Brian McBrien at 514-768-5217

Update:
The New council that was being formed in Chateauguay now has the amount of members needed. On the 17th of August they acquired their final five new members and are awaiting their council number. We at 284 would like to express our congratulations and best wishes to them.

Financial Secretary:
I’ve had some responses to my request for e-mail addresses but there must be more of you with computers that would like to receive the newsletter this way. I mentioned at one time that it would save a lot of postage but now that we have gone strictly to the computer and those of you that have to log onto the web site for this information can have this information sent to you, just send me your e-mail address to; frankdiggins@sympatico.ca Another reminder, now is the time to get the names of the children to Lucy Patwell for Christmas. Her number is 514-363-0968 or you may call Cathy Lindsay at 514-768-8859

Message from your Fraternal Counsellor…….Kevin Ready
Knights of Columbus Annuities- Many economists are suggesting that we will have some unstable economic conditions for the next couple of years. If the spike in gas prices is any indication, we may have to think a little more seriously about our retirement income. The Knights of Columbus Annuity takes advantage of the non-profit status of the Order. Our rate of return is almost always higher than what similar products yield in the commercial sector. More importantly though…it’s guaranteed for life! This is a product that’s available to you and your family…as a Brother Knight. If you have RRSP’s and RIFF’s that are not guaranteed, and have a rate of return that seems low, your Fraternal Order probably can offer better. Take advantage of it!
Knights of Columbus Insurance- For the 16th consecutive year, Standard & Poor’s have given the Knights of Columbus Insurance Program the highest rating available. The Insurance Marketplace Standards Association (IMSA) has gone on record as saying that we are the leaders in the industry. If you don’t have Knights of Columbus Insurance, do you know how your policy will protect you in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? In record numbers, members are looking at the Knights Insurance as an option to their existing coverage. There’s no pressure or obligation. Most of those that do look at this option find that they get more coverage, usually for the same premium….or less!
Long Term Care Insurance- If you have assets to protect and you anticipate that either you or your spouse may need extended medical care in your advanced years, I urge you to consider Long Term Care Insurance. Remember that oil filter commercial where the spokesman says “You can pay me now or pay me later.” Well, the same thing applies to this. The cost of extended health care can be financially crippling. You have an alternative. Check it out!
Pilgrimage to New Haven- The 2nd Annual Pilgrimage to New Haven is scheduled for November 7th, 8th and 9th, 2008. Last year was a huge success. We have 4 buses going and there’s still plenty of space available…but you have to act quickly. We travel by Highway Coach, stay at the Wallingford Inn by Marriot; visit the Knights of Columbus Supreme Headquarters, as well as the Knights of Columbus Museum. We even scheduled time to go to a nearby Mall. (Think Christmas shopping!!) We will attend Mass at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven…the same church where the Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882. The price is very reasonable. E-mail or call me and I’ll send you an information package.
